SkillQuest works with the individual to achieve the goals that are important to th​​em. This may include socialization, communication and independent living skills. SkillQuest is licensed through the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) and must abide by all state and federal requirements and regulations.

The eligibility criteria for admission to SkillQuest is as follows:

  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Must be a recipient of either a Community Living Medicaid Waiver, Family and Individual Supports Medicaid Waiver OR reside in an Intermediate Care Facility for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities
  • Must have Support Coordination through the Department of Human Services - Developmental Services Division or has a Support Coordinator in another city but is a resident of the City of Virginia Beach
  • Referrals must come through a Support Coordinator

SkillQuest hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., except for City-observed holidays.

Employees have met all mandated staff training and competency requirements, including CPR/First Aid, positive behavioral support training and Medication Management training. Additionally, there are two full-time nurses on site and a licensed art therapist. Physical therapy​, speech therapy, and occupational therapy may be provided as arranged by the case manager.

Center Based Site ​​

This site provides a variety of activities for adults who have challenges related to intellectual disabilities or other co-occurring developmental disabilities, including autism and Cerebral Palsy. The program provides person centered support in an atmosphere of encouragement, fun and creativity. 

The participants of SkillQuest enjoy socialization, working with computer technology, music, community integration and volunteering, and working with artists on projects that will hang annually in a gallery at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Virginia Beach.
