​Volunteers​​​​​​​​​​​​

The Department of Human Services is committed to community engagement and welcomes volunteers interested in strengthening families or assisting with meeting the needs of individuals in our community who live with intellectual or developmental disabilities, mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders, and /or also face socio-economic challenges. Volunteer opportunities may include the following assignments:

  • Serving as a classroom assistant to children with developmental delays
  • Serving as a friend on Open Table meetings
  • Serving on Board sponsored committees
  • Serving as coaches or instructors within the Bank On program
  • Assisting with seasonal activities such as the Holiday Project​

Interns

Internship opportunities will be available to students from the following schools/ programs: 

  • Norfolk State University - BSW & MSW programs
  • Old Dominion University - Human Services counseling
  • Regent University - counseling
  • Virginia Commonwealth University
  • Virginia Wesleyan University
